hi. my name is erik. i've been making records under the name state-music for the past 4 years or so. before that I didn't call it anything other than messing around with a guitar, a 4 track, and a SK-60. but 4 years ago is when I got my first PC and set about learning as much as I could about production and sound design. everything here is a byproduct of that learning. if you are visiting this site for the first time, you may be wondering what exactly what kind of music i make, but I am usually at a loss for an apt description.

it's been called "ambient", "lowercase", and plain "dark". it's not been called japanese power noise, or rock-n-roll revisionism. maybe someone someday will come up with the perfect category for it. but personally, i've given up trying.

if you're like me and would just rather get on with the music, downloads are available in the releases section. mp3's are either 128k or 256k (with the exception of the Grounded Sound Compilation track "Flourescence" which is 96k), so for those who are still bandwidth-challenged, cd-r's are available at very little cost; just mail me at info@state-music.com.
